- ‘Prophet’ Walter Magaya
Harare ‘prophet’ Walter Magaya’s Prophet Healing and Deliverance Ministry has fallen victim to the fraudsters involved in the Zvishavane Town Council (ZTC) corruption scandal, in which $150 000 is now known to have been stolen by workers.
Money paid by the ministry for hall hire was stolen by council staffers, according to an internal audit report seen by Now Daily. Magaya’s ministry was one of numerous churches that paid deposits for the hire of meeting halls, others being Glad Tidings and Glory Ministries. The audit report documents numerous cases of fraud, especially involving cession fees.
The ZTC town secretary Tinoda Mukutu was suspended in April to facilitate investigations. Council sources said town finance director George Jongoni was also to be suspended Friday, along with his deputy.
Zvishavane Residents and Ratepayers Association chairman Peter Mudzviti said external auditors should be brought in to conduct a forensic audit. He also lambasted local MP John Holder for holding a secret meeting with council employees and councillors that excluded residents’ representatives in the wake of Mukutu’s suspension.
