Beleaguered ‘businessman’ Wicknell Chivayo’s partner in Intratrek Zimbabwe is a Zambian drug dealer who is on the run from authorities in his country for Mandrax smuggling, Now Daily can reveal.

Ibrahim Sildky Yusuf, a Zambian based in South Africa, the founder and executive chairman of the Intratrek Group of companies, which owns Intratek Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd of which Chivayo is listed variously as ‘managing director’, ‘director’ and ‘representative’, has also been arrested for money laundering and theft by fraudulent means from the Zambian parliament, documents at hand show.

According to the Mail and Guardian, Yusuf was “linked to a Zambian Mandrax smuggling network in the mid-1980s and named in a 1985 Zambian court judgment”. Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission told the M&G that Yusuf “is a well-known drug trafficker”.

Yusuf refuted the charges through his lawyer Tshepo Mathopo. However, the paper stood by its story that he was a drug dealer and a fugitive from justice in Zambia.

“The M&G has since received a document on Yusuf prepared by the Zambian Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), which confirmed the allegations outlined in the M&G’s article. It also included other details, alleging that he had been arrested in July 1989 in connection with the unlawful importation of vehicles and trafficking in Mandrax and again in December 1997 in connection with money-laundering and illegally importing vehicles,” the Mail and Guardian said.

Yusuf fell into scandal in South Africa after his company controversially won a tender with the KwaZulu-Natal department of health to supply circumcision devices for use in its HIV/Aids prevention campaign known as Tara Klamp.

It emerged during subsequent media coverage that Yusuf and his son and right hand man Tariq, the third listed director in Intratrek Zimbabwe, were closely connected to South African president Jacob Zuma, Zulu king Goodwill Zwelithini and former S.A. National Intelligence Agency boss Billy Masetlha.
