You are No Better than Mugabe, Mujuru Told
By Peter Bolder
Former vice president Joyce Mujuru has fired volleys at her main accuser Grace Mugabe, president Robert Mugabe’s wife, denying damaging coup plot and witchcraft allegations.
“I’m neither a witch nor an assassin,” Mujuru said Tuesday at the launch of her new party, Zimbabwe People First. She was responding to charges by Mugabe and his wife that she wanted to kill him using juju and tried to inspire a military uprising that could have killed him and his family. The despot’s wife Grace Mugabe made attacks against Mujuru her passport to the supreme Zanu PF politburo.
Mujuru has, however, been taken to task to explain her role in the brutal Zanu PF system and exonerate herself from allegations of political murders, corruption and violence.
Mujuru officially launched her 2018 presidential bid at a Harare hotel flanked by clergymen and political figures estranged from Zanu PF, including Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo.Top of Form

“Tell us where the dead bodies are!!!” demanded one commentator on social media.
“She wouldn’t be saying that if she didn’t get kicked out,” said another.
One Mister Arcadia PhD said: “And who killed her estranged husband and how did they get all that wealth? Land audit yes, we will then know how many farms she and her husband grabbed. We also want to know details of their Chiyadzwa interest. This party is doomed because its leaders are not better than the thieves in ZANU PF.”
Others said Mujuru’s entry into mainstream politics could divide the opposition vote at elections scheduled for 2018. However, disgruntled Mugabe critics believe the former Chimurenga fighter will plug the gap created by Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai acquiescing to Mugabe.
Mujuru told journalists at her first press conference since being expelled from Zanu PF in December 2014 that she was biding her time in the last 18 months in order to get logistics and all the necessary arrangements in place for her new party known as Zimbabwe People First.
Mujuru vowed never to rejoin Zanu PF.
“Zimbabwe People First is here. We’re living under an unjust system. There is selective application of the law, one for the poor and powerless, one for the opposition and another one for the ruling party supporters,” Mujuru told the press at the five-star Meikles hotel, where vendors whistled and jostled outside to get a glimpse of her when she arrived.
Mujuru’s main impact, unlike that of her opposition rival, former trade unionist Morgan Tsvangirai, is not on the street. It is in the military, where the majority would not want to associate with her publicly because many are still on the regime’s payroll. She is former minister of defence, her husband was a retired military general and army commander before and after independence. Joyce Mujuru is a decorated liberation fighter hers, so despite the simplicity and innocence she portrayed during her press briefing, no one is taking her game lightly, not least in the Zanu PF politburo.
