Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai praise singer Patson Murimoga has been beaten up by party thugs at the movement’s Harvest House headquarters in Harare, Now Daily can reveal.
Murimoga was accused of being allied to party secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora, a member of MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe who is locked in a mortal leadership wrangle with the movement’s beleaguered president Morgan Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai henchwoman and Harare women’s assembly chairperson Ronia Bunjira ordered the attack led by a notorious party thug identified as Jabu. Bunjira, a proportional representation MP later boasted about the attack on Murimoga, the singer with Mwonzora of propaganda hits such as Tsikamutanda which, ironically, urges Tsvangirai to use violence against internal party critics.
The MDC-T is deeply divided, with Khupe allegedly angling to take over the party leadership through a popular coup by 2018 when Zimbabwe goes for elections. Senior party officials backing Khupe’s bid say Tsvangirai is unlikely to beat dictator Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF party as he is carrying the dead weight of sex, corruption and political violence scandals. Khupe’s move apparently has the backing of some Western officials, who invited her to the United Kingdom to receive donations for the party. The trip excluded Tsvangirai and his loyalists who were denied British visas, further enraging the discredited former prime minister and widening the rift with his deputy.
