Harare ‘prophet’ Walter Magaya has come under fire for ‘causing’ the deaths of many people by making ‘false’ claims that he can cure AIDS.
Numerous people have died after Magaya pronounced them cured of AIDS and reportedly encouraged them to abandon anti-viral treatment as a sign of ‘faith’. Magaya denies ever advising anyone to leave treatment.
Members of parliament criticized Magaya and other so-called prophets for giving people false hope.
“Traditional and faith healers should encourage people to continue to take their
ART medication even after herbal and spiritual healing to stop the needless loss of lives,” said parliament’s thematic committee on HIV/AIDS in a key recommendation.
