President Robert Mugabe’s wife Grace Mugabe has sprung to the rescue of fugitive gospel merchant Uebert Angel Mudzanire, who is on the run from the police for alleged car theft and fraud, it emerged.
Angel, as the Spirit Embassy ministry founder and Miracle TV satellite channel owner calls himself, was pictured walking with Grace Mugabe on the lawn of her family’s ‘blue roof’ Borrowdale Brooke mansion. This was during her birthday celebrations in July and Angel was later seen openly conducting business deals in Harare.
Angel fled Zimbabwe in 2014 to escape prosecution for car theft and fraud and was placed on the police ‘wanted list’. This was after a follower accused the self-styled ‘prophet’ of duping him into surrendering a new Bentley Continental worth $300 000 in exchange for promises of supernatural miracles which never happened.
Angel now lives in the United Kingdom and posted pictures of himself and his wife Beverly on Twitter, with messages condemning the police and those calling for his arrest in Zimbabwe. Angel was among a coterie of ‘prophets’ who graced Grace Mugabe’s birthday, alongside Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministry front man Walter Magaya, who shocked his poor followers by giving the despot’s wife $1.5 million.
Sources said the ‘prophets’ were using Grace Mugabe to escape prosecution for various criminal acts. Magaya faces various criminal charges, including murder of an alleged former girlfriend and evading customs taxes.
Charges against Angel arose soon after he officiated at the wedding of the Mugabes daughter Bona.
