Walter Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries lost nearly $120 000 to conmen after an attempt by the sect leader to import a vehicle through bogus agents backfired.
According to court records seen by Now Daily, Magaya’s representative and PHD overseer Admire Mango hatched a plan to import a Land Rover Discovery 4 from South Africa using unregistered agents. The vehicle was meant to be a birthday present for Magaya.
Mango alleges that he gave one of the agents, Upenyu Prosper Mashangwa $80 000 to purchase the vehicle and another $36 000 to pay duty and other charges for it.
Mashangwa is alleged to have connived with four others, including two Zimbabwe Revenue Authority officials to produce a fake importation licence after the vehicle was seized by customs officers in March. No money was recovered and the vehicle was seized by the state.
Harare magistrate Noel Mupeiwa remanded Mashangwa and his co-accused to July 2 for trial.
