President Robert Mugabe’s daughter, Bona has fled Zimbabwe amid death threats as Zanu PF faction fights increasingly turn bloody, Now Daily has learnt.
Mugabe’s first daughter, now the dictator’s favourite to take over as president if he goes, had become the target of vicious attacks from rivals within Zanu PF after her father secretly gave her a top post in charge of his security, replacing the ailing Grace Mugabe, who suffers from colon cancer.
Bona’s insecurity also stemmed from her father’s decision to relegate her to his old Mount Pleasant house as punishment for marrying Simba Chikore, a man from a poor family, who was proved by his security to be a playboy.
According to reports, Bona Mugabe now lives with her husband Simba Chikore at The Marq on Paterson Hill, District 9 Singapore, a luxury property built in 2011 by SC Global. Sources said Bona had taken up one of the three penthouses in the condominium, with private pool and roof terrace, which cost a reputed $5 million, although other apartments in the building cost $1 million each.
Bona Mugabe is just one of the children of senior Zanu PF to flee the country as the race to succeed the ailing dictator gets increasingly violent. Mugabe has accused his rivals of trying to assassinate him. However, the other contestants for his position, ex-vice president Joice Mujuru and vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa have made similar claims and sent their children to live abroad.
Metropolitan Bank founder and Mugabe’s personal banker Enock Kamushinda is reported to have facilitated the transaction from his Malaysia base.
