Movement for Democratic Change president Morgan Tsvangirai has denied damaging state claims that his party was behind the abduction and disappearance of activist Itai Dzamara.
Tsvangirai made the denial during a visit to the home of Dzamara in Glen View 7 Monday, where he met the missing man’s wife and children, mother and brother.
An attempt was later made by unknown assailants to abduct the party’s youth leader, Happymore Chidziva outside a service station in central Harare, party sources said.
“The MDC leader said it was ironic that the state was saying it was the MDC that abducted Dzamara when, in fact, he was arrested by people who identified themselves as police,” said Tsvangirai’s spokesman, Luke Tamborinyoka. “He said MDC held the state culpable and responsible for the whole sordid saga.”
