National soccer team the ‘Warriors’ coach Norman Mapeza is under pressure to relinquish his lucrative $10 000 a month post as ‘The Moneybags’ FC Platinum head coach after a string of poor results.
The Moneybags coach’s youthful outfit suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Tanzanian team, Young Africans and faces further humiliation in the return African cup champions match in Zvishavane on May 4.
FC Platinum’s board met for an extraordinary meeting on Sunday, a day after Mapeza’s team played poorly and drew 2-2 with premiership newcomers Dongo Sawmills at Mandava stadium. Officials who watched the match said Mapeza had little chance of survival.
“Mapeza had been given a target to win nine points in the first three league games for the club. He has already lost two points. The feeling among fans is that Mapeza is letting the team down because he is too busy with national team business,” said an executive, confirming that the club was ready to give him the boot if he failed to win the match against Tanzania’s Young Africans.
