Zim dancehall artiste Seh Calaz shocked arch-rival Soul Jah Love by scooping three prestigious awards at the genre’s awards gala in Harare recently.
The ceremony was surprisingly peaceful. Followers of the two crooners have previously fought over allegations that Calaz was sleeping with Jah Love’s wife, Bounty Lisa, but the artists’ crews stayed away from each other.
Other mega-winners were Tocky Vibes, who went away with three awards, including best male artist. Winky D collected the best live band award, best dressed artist and an honorary award.
Calaz won best video, best vocalist and best club hit with Hatimisike. Jah Love trailed behind, winning for best collaboration with Shinso and also sharing the prize for best social message with Tocky Vibes.
Lady Squanda was declared best female artist for the second year running.
Star FM was voted best radio station supporting Zim dancehall music, a fusion of reggae and local rap, while Smiley and Dadza D were voted best DJs.
Winky D’s manager was voted best manager ahead of Calaz’s Godfrey Bakasa, sparking controversy.
