Sacked Masvingo provincial affairs minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti Tshuma has distanced himself from the Zanu PF faction led by ex-president Joice Mujuru, saying it was his rival, Shuvai Mahofa who had told president Robert Mugabe lies about him.
Bhasikiti said he only co-operated with Mujuru because she was his boss in both government and party at the time.
He also said he was not bitter with Mahofa, who was sworn in as provincial minister for Masvingo by Mugabe Thursday.
Bhasikiti said he was told in 2014 about Mahofa’s moves to take his job and he confronted Mugabe about it.
“I told the president that I knew he was going to appoint Mahofa to replace me but I would serve until I received his letter of ditsmissal,” Bhasikiti said.
Bhasikiti told a radio station that he always put Mugabe first, but also respected his close lieutenants, especially the two vice presidents.
“Mugabe is the king of Zimbabwe,” Bhasikiti said.
He vowed to remain in Zanu PF and continue representing Mwenezi East in parliament, saying the people of Mwenezi still wanted him to serve them and he had many programmes for them.
Bhasikiti fell out of favour with Mugabe, who accused him of belonging to the “wrong basket”, meaning the Mujuru camp.
Bhasikiti is believed to be fawning to Mugabe to keep his parliamentary seat and ministerial pension.
