Hurungwe West MP Temba Mliswa has been arrested on a firearms charge amid fears of a major new crackdown on the Zanu PF faction led by ex-president Joice Mujuru.
Police spokesperson Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest. Mliswa was found with six unlicensed guns at his farm in Karoi on Sunday and was being held at Chinhoyi central police station, the cops said.
Analysts dismissed the case as political, noting that many other senior Zanu PF officials owned armouries of unlicensed weapons, many of them stolen from white farmers when they were driven out of the farms.
Mliswa, the deposed Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairperson, last week clashed openly with the party’s commissar and Grace Mugabe bootlicker Saviour Kasukuwere over his ouster. Mliswa was removed from his post through a vote of no confidence targetting supporters of dictator Robert Mugabe’s rival Mujuru’s so-called Gamatox faction.
