The body of Martha Phiri has finally been repatriated to Zimbabwe and buried, more than a month after she collapsed and died on arrival at the United Kingdom’s Manchester airport, Now Daily has learnt.
Relatives said Phiri’s body arrived in Zimbabwe on Wednesday night. A memorial service was held for her in Harare on Thursday before she was taken for burial in her home town, Zvishavane on Friday.
Phiri’s sudden death just before Christmas caused nightmares for her family. Her brother, Sam Phiri, whom she had gone to visit in Manchester where he lives, appealed through social networks for an additional £3000 to help cover expenses. It could not be established how much had been raised through that appeal.
Martha Phiri is survived by an adult daughter. She was a junior executive at Blue Ribbon Foods before retiring early due to illness.
