Higher education minister and Zanu PF politburo member Oppah Muchinguri has defected to the faction led by acting president Emmerson Mnangagwa after clashing with Grace Mugabe, president Robert Mugabe’s wife, sources revealed.
The sources claimed that the new rift emerged after Muchinguri apparently used the recent crusade against ousted former vice president Joice Mujuru to edge closer to the ageing despot.
The sources say Muchinguri claims Mugabe is the father of her daughter Tanya Rushesha, for whom she is trying to secure an inheritance under the president’s will.
This is said to have angered Grace Mugabe, leading Muchinguri to seek protection under Mnangagwa.
“Muchinguri is widely blamed for the collapse of the Mujuru camp. Now she is exposed after she clashed with Grace Mugabe and she fears for her life,” said a party insider.
The gang of four (G4) comprised Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao, Saviour Kasukuwere, Jonathan Moyo and Oppah Muchinguri.
Muchinguri’s decision to jump ship resulted in an instant backlash, with her detractors reviving claims that she took part in the alleged murder of war hero Josiah Tongogara.
