The Zimbabwe government has been sued by a group of farmers who were violently evicted from Arnold Manzou farm in Mazowe on the orders of first lady Grace Mugabe, Now Daily has learnt.
A lawyer for the 200 families said papers were filed in the High Court on Friday challenging the evictions , designed to pave way for Mrs Mugabe’s game reserve.
Tonderai Batasara of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said home affairs and lands ministers, Kembo Mohadi and Douglas Mombeshora as well as chief cop Augustine Chihuri were cited as respondents.
Batasara said the state was in contempt of an earlier High Court order and had violated several fundamental rights, including the right to shelter and access to clean water.
Police on Monday went around Arnold farm destroying huts and chasing the inhabitants away.
The High Court ruled in 2013 that the settlers shoule not be moved until alternative accommodation was found for them.
