Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has sacked his deputy Joice Mujuru and powerful defence minister Sidney Sekeramayi, Now Daily can reveal.
Under pressure from his ambitious wife, Grace, to clear the path for her own rise to the beleaguered country’s presidency, Mugabe also fired several ministers aligned to Mujuru, government sources said.
The fired cabinet members are postal and communications minister Webster Shamu, Dzikamai Mavhaire (energy), Lazarus Dokora (education) and Munacho Mutezo (deputy, energy).
Mugabe was expected to make a formal announcement Tuesday and name a new cabinet.
Mugabe’s young second wife Grace was also reported to have embarked on a purge of the Emmerson Mnangagwa faction, which helped the dictator frame Mujuru and eventually get rid of her.
