‘Murdered’ MDC official Learnmore Judah Jongwe’s daughter, Tawana, has obtained exceptional Grade 7 results, prompting emotional tributes from her father’s friends on social networks, it emerged.
Jongwe’s friend Chalton Hwende had his Facebook account swamped after he announced her results Wednesday.
“Congratulations to my late best friend Learnmore Judah Jongwe’s daughter Tawana for obtaining 6 units. Wadadisa (you make us proud). I am sure your mum and dad are proud of you today,” Hwende posted on his wall.
Jongwe, the former Kuwadzana MP and MDC spokesman, died mysteriously at a Harare prison on October 24, 2002 while awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his wife, Rutendo Muusha. In July 2002, he had ‘confessed’ that he stabbed her to death in a fit of rage after finding her making out with another man, a Central Intelligence Organisation operative apparently sent to disturb his life.
The former University of Zimbabwe rebel student leader and Zinasu president became the first chairman of the MDC youth assembly upon the party’s formation in 1999. He became a marked man by the regime of Robert Mugabe after he eloquently made the case for United States sanctions against the dictator in the Zimbabwean parliament. A memorial trust has since been launchf in his honour, to take care of his daughter’s education and promote his vision.
