Four members of the protest group Occupy Africa Unity Square have disappeared after presenting a petition to parliament calling for the resignation of president Robert Mugabe and his ‘failed’ government, Now Daily can reveal.
The four missing activists have been identified as Charles Nyoni (32), Tichaona Danho, Terry Manzini and Shungu Mutize.
“Charles Nyoni handed his petition to the Speaker of Parliament (Jacob Mudenda) but has since disappeared together with three other OAUS members that accompanied him and staged a protest in the House,” OAUS said in a statement.
The petition, calling on Mugabe to “admit failure” and step down was also handed to Zanu PF and MDC-T leaders of the House, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Thokozani Khupe respectively.
“Nyoni interjected from the public gallery and requested for the House’s attention for him to briefly explain his mission and thereafter handed the petition, including copies to the MDC and Zanu PF House leaders. We are making frantic efforts to locate them and have enlisted the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights,” the protest group said.
