A former blue-eyed boy of president Robert Mugabe, Tazzen Mandizvidza, has been suspended from ZBC amid allegations he colluded with suspended CEO Happison Muchechetere to defraud the state corporation of $7 million.
ZBC chairman and clergyman Gibson Munyoro confirmed the suspensions of news general manager Mandizvidza, acting CEO Allan Chiweshe and finance director, Retired Brigadier-General Elliot Kasu.
Munyoro said the move to suspend the executives was meant to facilitate hearings into allegations of corruption raised by auditors KPMG.
The report accused Muchechetere of pocketing $3 million from the scandal.
Mandizvidza was considered one of the ‘untouchables’ and a favourite of the president as he conducted his ritual annual ‘birthday interview’.
