Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe , who claims to be a devout Catholic, has muted his public criticism of homosexuals after a number of his top government and military officials ere exposed as gay.
Temba Mliswa, the Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairman and close relative of Didymus Mutasa, the de facto head of the secret police, the CIO, recently named two cabinet members and a party official allegedly involved in homosexual activities. The named officials are information minister Jonathan Moyo, environment minister Saviour “Tyson” Kasukuwere and Zanu PF deputy information director Psychology Maziwisa.
The three officials have threatened to sue Mliswa and Newsday newspaper which published the claims for a staggering US$80 million, a figure described by legal experts as ‘ridiculous’ if the charges are untrue and part of a smear campaign, as they claim.
Investigations by Now Daily have revealed that a number of other senior officials are gays and lesbians. The late Gays and Lesbians association director Keith Goddard threatened to expose senior military commanders he claimed were gay if Mugabe continued harassing homosexuals whom he claimed were “worse than pigs and dogs”.
“At least dogs know the difference between male and female,” Mugabe said.
Goddard named a former publisher and academic as well as a former central bank governor, whose identities are known to Now Daily, as homosexuals.
According to our sources, Kasukuwere was involved with gay Indians in Mutare and later in the United Kingdom where he was severely compromised as a CIO operative.
Moyo was known to scour gay bars in South Africa and curiously appointed the homosexual Allum Mpofu to head the ZBC, before the latter was caught humping another man outside a nightclub.
The late president Canaan Banana was disgraced after he allegedly sodomized his police bodyguard while John Landa Nkomo’s appointment as vice president was delayed after reports surfaced that that he had sodmized a mentally ill man picked randomly from the streets.
