Embattled “Moneybags” FC Platinum coach Lloyd Mutasa is making frantic efforts to acquire charismatic Shabanie Mine forward Ashley “Mabhurugwa” Mukwena amid threats.
Platinum sources confirmed that Mutasa faces opposition from the team’s powerful fans, who have warned him to win the next match against home town archrivals Shabanie or face open rebellion.
Shabanie Mine chair Pithius Shoko told journalists that FC Platinum had expressed interest in signing the hardworking striker but had not yet made a formal offer.
Mukwena impressed the Platinum executive two weeks ago when the team beat Shabanie 2-1.
Mutasa is under renewed pressure to win or quit after Moneybags were knocked out of the One Wallet Cup quarter-finals by Chicken Inn last Friday in a match that ended 1-0.
Club officials were also unhappy that their team was pegged at 7th position on the log despite Platinum offering the ZPSL’s highest winning bonuses of $400.
In May, under-pressure Mutasa fired his assistant Masimba Dinyero but that does not appear to have made a dramatic change in the team’s fortunes.
