Sunday Mail editor Edmund Kudzayi, the man accused of being Baba Jukwa, clenched his fists in a boxing pose and punched the air symbolically as he left Harare prison Friday vowing to fight on.
“Freedom is a beautiful thing,” he said. “I’m feeling okay and ready to fight.”
Kudzayi was immediately whisked away by his lawyer.
On Thursday, High Court judge Joseph Musakwa granted Kudzayi $5 200 bail with stringent reporting conditions. He was ordered to report to police twice a day, surrender travel documents, reside within 40 kilometres of Harare post office, surrender title deeds for his parents’ house and give police the password for the Baba Jukwa Gmail account he claimed to have hacked.
The real Baba Jukwa posted on Thursday that Kudzayi was not guilty and should be released.
“Cde Edmund has done nothing wrong,” Baba Jukwa said. “Please acquit him and allow him to serve the nation.”
