Two Zimbabwe government ministers have been revealed as the paymasters of a hacker who claims to have broken into Google and Facebook accounts of Zanu PF whistleblower Baba Jukwa.
Information minister Jonathan Moyo and former youth minister Saviour Kasukuwere were named by the detained hacker, Sunday Mail editor Edmund Kudzayi as the ones who contracted him to break into the controversial Baba Jukwa’s accounts.
He said Kasukuwere invited him as an ‘IT expert’ to assess some information relating to the Baba Jukwa account brought to him by a hacker called Kennedy. He said Kasukuwere referred him to Moyo. He was tasked to work with the Ministry of Defence to expose those behind the character but says he was arrested after providing “sensitive” information to the ZRP CID law and order section head, assistant commissioner Crispen Makedenge.
“I am perplexed that I am being falsely incriminated, yet the investigating officer knows very well that my involvement related only to hacking the Baba Jukwa account and the Ministry of Defence officials were also in the picture of my involment in hacking of the gmail account,” Kudzayi said in a dossier accompanying his bail application, filed in the High Court by lawyer Admire Rubaya Wednesday.
Kudzayi is charged with attempting to subvert a constitutinally-elected government or alternatively attempting to commit an act of insurgency, banditry, sabotage or terrorism, undermining the authority of the president and not securing ammunition.
