The editor of the state-run Zimbabwe weekly Sunday Mail, Edmund Kudzai was arrested Thursday on unspecified charges.
Police spokesperson Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest and seizure of the journalist’s equipment.
The journalists union condemned the arrest of Kudzayi and a reported police hunt for the editor of the Zimbabwe Independent Dumisani Muleya.
The arrest comes barely a fortnight after Mugabe derided information minister Jonathan Moyo for hiring Kudzayi and recently-appointed Chronicle editor Mduduzi Mathuthu, describing them as Zanu PF “enemies at Zimpapers”.
