Tsvangirai Taken Ill

Movement for Democratic Change president Morgan Tsvangirai on Sunday cancelled, at the last minute, an appearance at a much-advertised “Africa Day special rally” amid reports he was sick.
Tsvangirai’s spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka confirmed his boss was ill.
“We have received a report from the president’s doctor that he can’t come. He needs to rest,” Tamborinyoka told reporters at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, where an estimated 10 000-strong crowd had gathered.
Tamborinyoka denied Tsvangirai was down with malaria but would not disclose the nature of his illness, leading to wild speculation.
Tsvangirai was expected to have given his views on the leadership crisis in Africa, which has seen dictators like Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe clinging to power for decades amid deepening corruption and poverty.
Party organiser Nelson Chamisa and acting secretary-general Tapiwa Mashakada addressed the rally.
