Energy Mutodi Property Auctioned to Cover Debt

Zanu PF politician and rhumba musician Energy Mutodi has had property auctioned to cover a $40 000 debt, the auctioneers said.
KM Auctions of Graniteside, Harare said a generator belonging to Mutodi was being auctioned in favour of Brace (Pvt) Ltd under High Court case number HC703/13.
In January, Brace filed filed summons in the High Court, saying they wanted to recover
$30 000 owed and $10 000 interest.
A statement by Brace said: “On 23rd of February 2012 the plaintiff and defendant (Mutodi) entered into an open order contract. Subsequent to that, the plaintiff proceeded to fix and supply furnishings for the interior of the immovable property situated at number 1560 Charlotte Brooke, Borrowdale. The total amount of costs for the work done and material furnished amounted to $92 621,50 of which a balance was paid leaving a debit balance of $39 743,19.”
Mutodi has been arrested several times since last year, accused of swindling home-seekers through dubious land deals. He was recently dragged to the maintenance court, accused of failing to support his ex-wife.
He pulled out of Zanu PF primaries in Goromonzi in 2013 after he was arrested on the eve of the chaotic internal party poll. His rival, Beatrice Nyamupinga, claimed victory and Mutodi conceded defeat.
