Chamisa Rejected

Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) has reacted with fury to published claims by Movement for Democratic Change organising secretary Nelson Chamisa that he started the organisation.
Zinasu spokesperson Zechariah Mushawatu demanded a public retraction from Chamisa, saying the union was “greatly offended” by his claim, published by a website, “which has greatly misled the public”.
“Chamisa did not create Zinasu, nor was he part of the individuals who created the union. Zinasu was founded in the 1980s by Selby Hwacha, a University of Zimbabwe law student,” said Mushawatu.
He said the union remained largely dormant before it was revived briefly by Munyaradzi Gwisai and finally relaunched in 1997.
Zinasu has accused Chamisa and MDC-T of interfering in the union’s affairs. Union president Pride Mkono told the media this week that the party was sending its youths to infiltrate union structures, causing disruptions ahead of its November congress.
