Queen Elizabeth Rewards Zimbabwe-born Soldier For Bravery

Zimbabwe-born British Royal Marine Craig Buchanan, aged 26, has been honoured with the coveted Military Cross for saving colleagues from a rogue local cop’s bullets in Afghanistan.
According to the Western Morning News, Buchanan was on a mission to train Afghan security forces in Helmand province in October 2012 when his patrol came under attack from the cop who had gone beserk, firing on his colleagues.
Two marines were killed, along with several Afghans. Many were injured, including Buchanan’s friend standing next to him.
“Buchanan’s quick thinking and bravery saved lives and prevented a difficult situation from escalating. His examplary gallantry is an inspiration to others,” said the citation.
Buchanan brought the rogue soldier down.
Buchanan said: “My old man was in the Selous Scouts, which were the Rhodesian special forces, so I’m just tring to follow in his footsteps.” – John Chimunhu.
