The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai tumbled in its former strongholds of Manicaland and Masvingo in Wednesday’s elections, plunging the former majority party into turmoil.
The MDC-T said it would mount a court challenge, alleging there were irregularities.
In Manicaland, the party won four seats against Zanu PF’s 22. The MDC-T previously held 20 seats. Zanu PF took all 26 Masvingo seats.
MDC-T, however, swept Bulawayo’s twelve seats and gained 17 of the 26 Matabeleland North and South parliamentary seats. Zanu PF got 8 seats in the two provinces.
Robert Mugabe’s party took all 37 seats in Mashonaland East and Central.
