Police on Sunday arrested Morgan Komichi, the MDC-T deputy chairman and were questioning him over ballots cast in favour of party president Morgan Tsvangirai during special voting, that were later found in a trash bin.
Tsvangirai confirmed the arrest of his top aide.
“I have been alerted that the police are at Deputy Organising Secretary’s residence (Morgan Komichi) and they want to pick him up. The officer picking up Hon. Komichi is Detective Assistant Inspector Nerimbo. I have sent a lawyer to this effect,” Tsvangirai said.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) spokesman, Kumbirai Mafunda, said Komichi had been taken to Harare Central police station.
“Zimbabwean police are currently quizzing Komichi over ballot papers which were picked up in a wastebin after being used during specicial voting a fortnight ago,” Mafunda said.
